Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
HELP CENTER
You Ask - I Answer
WHAT ARE COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPIES (CBTS)?
Cognitive behavioral therapies have been demonstrated to be effective in addressing many problems including anxiety, depression, disordered eating, excessive worries, compulsions, traumatic stress, and insomnia. They are often referred to as “evidence-based” approaches.
CBTs are often time-limited and problem-focused. Sessions are interactive and collaborative. Because problematic behaviors and patterns can be resistant to change, a core component of CBT are “homework” assignments. Assignments often involve observing and documenting their ineffective/maladaptive behaviors/thought patterns and practice skills learned during sessions.
While it is important to understand the “whys” of a particular problem, much of our time will be spent on “how” to move forward and lead a more effective and satisfying life.

I'VE NEVER BEEN TO THERAPY BEFORE. WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
After a phone consultation, an initial intake appointment will be set up. Prior to this initial session, I will send you several forms to fill out. These forms include screens for anxiety/depression symptoms, a detailed life-history questionnaire, and my office policy form. Completing these forms prior to the first session will allow us to have more time to explore your concerns at a greater length. This session will also give us a chance to see if CBT is right for you. It also allows you to decide whether you are comfortable with my approach.
If we decide to go forward, we will set goals jointly. We will meet on a weekly basis and assess therapy progress periodically.
If we decide not to go forward, I will do my best to provide you with suitable referrals.
WHAT ARE YOUR FEES? DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?
My fees are $275 per session for a standard session of individual therapy and $350 for couples therapy. Group sessions are $125. Sliding scale fees are offered based on income and insurance coverage.
In most cases, services provided will be covered through your “out of network” benefits. To determine what that benefit is, you must call your insurance company. Most insurance companies will reimburse you for part of the cost of therapy.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
I have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Since our scheduled time is reserved for you, you are financially responsible for missed sessions. Missed sessions are billed at my standard rate, not at your insurance's rate.
